Over 33,500 tax cases worth Rs. 4.7 trillion are still pending in courts.

33,522 tax-related matters totaling Rs. 4.7 trillion remain pending in courts and tribunals across the nation.
This was disclosed at a review meeting convened by Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif in Islamabad today.

The Prime Minister instructed that these instances be resolved as soon as possible. He authorized the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) to hire prominent attorneys to help the government’s case in court. He also ordered a forensic assessment of revenue-related cases, as well as the punishment of officials who were responsible for weak or faulty cases.

The gathering was informed that great progress had already been achieved, with 586 cases handled in High Courts and 637 in the Supreme Court from July to December 2024.

The meeting was attended by Federal Minister for Economic Affairs Ahad Khan Cheema, Attorney General Mansoor Awan, Chairman of the FBR, and top officials.
