(Web Desk) – Experts have found that a popular phone habit may cause anxiety and have a bad influence on people’s mental health.
In today’s society, having a smartphone for work and another for personal usage is quite normal, and although it may help keep our professional and social life distinct, experts warn that there are some drawbacks to our mental health.
According to David Sheffield, a psychology professor at the University of Derby, possessing two gadgets may be associated with anxiety or neuroticism, which Psychology Today describes as “a tendency toward anxiety, depression, self-doubt, and other negative feelings”.
According to Professor Sheffield, “If you are more neurotic, you might be using your phone more and may be more concerned about battery life.”
Others in the profession believe it might indicate anxiety or a fear of losing out.
Dr. Zaheer Hussain, a senior lecturer in psychology at Nottingham Trent University, stated, “There is constant content provided by social media, and sometimes people will mindlessly scroll content out of a learned habit.”
People who follow rigorous phone usage habits may not suffer as much, but one expert noted that the sensation of wanting to be available 24 hours a day, seven days a week is detrimental to our mental health.
“Many people seem to feel an expectation of being reachable all the time, both professionally and privately,” Maxi Heitmayer, a human-computer interaction researcher at the London School of Economics, stated.
“This then leads to the unfortunate scenario where there’s two devices that draw in and compete for attention.”
Of course, it is not just those who have two phones who are at danger of having a negative influence on their mental health; those who use one phone incorrectly might also experience worry.
