GWADAR: The New Gwadar International Airport formally opened on Monday, with the successful landing of its first commercial flight.
PIA aircraft PK-503, which left Karachi at 9:50 AM with 46 people on board, landed at the new airport around 11:15 AM local time. The arrival of the flight signified the start of operations at this cutting-edge facility.
The arrival was marked with a water cannon salute. Defence and Aviation Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif, Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti, and other dignitaries welcomed the historic flight.
According to a PIA spokeswoman, this moment represents pride for Gwadar and the whole country, opening the path for economic development, tourism, and increased international connections.
The New Gwadar International Airport is an important project for the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). It was built with the cooperation of China and the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), emphasizing its importance in regional and global integration.
Earlier in February 2024, the airport paused fly operations for 16 hours owing to severe rain. The Civil Aviation Authority emphasized passenger and aircraft safety by suspending operations during the deluge.
The completion of this modern airport ushers in a new age of air travel, with tremendous prospects for Gwadar and Pakistan’s global connections.
