Curran’s century leads Zimbabwe to an ODI series victory.

(Reuters) – Ben Curran’s unbeaten 118 helped Zimbabwe coast to a nine-wicket victory against Ireland, clinching the three-match One Day International series on Tuesday at Harare Sports Club.

Curran, whose two brothers play for England, led Zimbabwe to a winning score of 246-1 in 39.3 overs, easily surpassing Ireland’s 50-over total of 240-6.

The Irish were put to bat, with opener Andy Balbirnie top scoring with 61 and forming an 86-run partnership with Harry Tector for the third wicket.

However, Curran and fellow opener Brian Bennett swiftly led Zimbabwe to victory with 77 runs off the first ten overs, and they were 109-0 in the 17th over when play was halted for 30 minutes due to a passing rain storm.

After play restarted, Bennett was severely ruled leg before wicket for 48, and with no accessible technology, he was unable to appeal the judgment. However, skipper Craig Ervine joined Curran at the wicket and struck 69 runs off 59 balls to help seal the victory.
