LAHORE/SIALKOT: Flight operations at the Lahore and Sialkot International airports were interrupted by dense fog on Monday.
According to information, aircraft operations at Lahore airport have been interrupted owing to strong fog, causing delays in numerous foreign departures.
A private airline’s flight PA-474 to Riyadh was delayed by 10 hours, while another’s flight SV-739 to Jeddah was delayed by eleven hours. Similarly, flight PA-410 to Dubai was delayed by 11 hours.
On the other hand, severe fog has covered Sialkot International Airport and the surrounding area. According to the airport’s spokeswoman, limited visibility has had a minor impact on flight operations and scheduling.
The representative noted that a minimum visibility of 500 metres is necessary for safe flight operations; however, visibility at Sialkot International Airport is now as low as 100 metres.
He stated that flying operations will resume as soon as weather conditions and visibility improved.
Traffic scenario on highways
On Sunday and Monday night, dense fog covered Punjab’s plains, particularly Lahore, paralysing ordinary life and impeding vehicle traffic.
The dense fog has hampered the flow of transportation in various cities. According to a Motorway official, the Motorway M2 from Lahore to Kot Momin is blocked.
Heavy trucks are not permitted to enter Motorway M3 from Faizpur to Jaranwala or Motorway M4 from Pindi Bhattian to Abdul Hakim, respectively. Motorway M11 from Lahore to Sialkot has been blocked for all types of traffic.
